Duties
Reads food order slip or received verbal instructions as to food required by patron, and prepares and cooks food according to instructions.
Prepares grill items and sandwiches.
Prepares salads and slices meats and cheese, using slicing machine.
Cleans work area and food preparation equipment. May prepare beverages. May serve meals to patrons over counter.
Medium work requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Work is conducted indoors, in well-lighted and ventilated kitchen. Exposed to steam, fumes, odors, extremes in temperature, noise with the personal risk for falling, burns or cuts.

Read instructions for assembling items and equipment. Write compound and complex sentences, using proper end punctuation, and employing adjectives and adverbs.
Speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation, variations in word order, using present, perfect, and future tenses.
Must meet Federal employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms. Skill to perform tasks with several steps and use judgment in the performance of sequential tasks. Concentration is required to serve uniform individual portions and to avoid distractions, such as when several people ask for different items at the same time. Simple arithmetic and the ability to read instructions is required. Working knowledge of common sanitation procedures to prevent contamination. Work is scheduled knowing the steps or sequences of steps are needed to complete the work. Follow specific oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made, but use some judgment in deciding that the standard of sanitation, attractiveness, timeliness, safety, and service are met (i.e.' serving and individual portioning). The supervisor periodically checks to see that work is done on time and according to instructions. Work involves light to moderate physical effort such as frequently lifting or moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds, constantly standing and walking, and occasionally lifting up to 45 pounds. Work areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy. Workers are exposed to minor cuts, bruises, burns, and scalds. There is danger of slipping on wet floors. Some workers are exposed to extreme temperatures of hot kitchens and walk-in refrigerators.
