Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Supervises the food service activities of production and service areas to ensure proper work methods are utilized.
- Responsible for efficient overall sanitation throughout all food production service areas.
- Oversees work performance of employees, discusses work performance and issues, and provides guidance.
- Conducts menu conferences and completes assignment schedules as required.
- Requisitions all supplies needed for the different areas in food service.
- Conducts final check of trays to ensure correct foods, temperature and portions as appropriate.
- Completes the tray assembly area report.
- Monitors and ensures that the proper procedures are communicated and carried.
- Instructs subordinates on difficult work operations.
- Provides instruction in correct sanitation and cleaning procedures, such as how to mop a floor, how to clean stainless steel, etc.
- Carries out the responsibilities of the position within general instructions, standard procedures and established policies.
- Changes work plans, work assignments and work methods as necessary to reduce or control costs and accomplish the work.
- Maintains inventory of food service supplies and equipment. Receives and inspect food deliveries.
- Reviews work while in progress or on completion to ensure the correct portion sizes, serving dishes, etc., have been used.
- Recognizes typical health and safety hazards for yourself and other workers around you.
- Spot checks the activities in all areas where meals and nourishment supplies are distributed to ensure quality and timeliness standards are met.
- Provides guidance and assistance for lower grade employees in making decision when assembling patient trays.
- Possesses knowledge on the correct foods to be served on modified diets.
- Ensures that all food supply items required are available for meeting the meal service schedule.
Work Schedule: 6:00am - 2:30pm or 10:30am - 7:00pm rotating schedule.

Physical Requirements: Employee may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Employee also may be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment; and frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dish washing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Preferred Experience: Supervises all areas of food production & service including food preparation, nourishment, tray delivery & retrieval, making rounds, taking corrective action for any problems that arise in the kitchen or on wards .Requisitions all supplies needed for food service, ability to prepare work schedules/assignments, prepare performance ratings for all employees under their direct supervision. Closely supervises work performance of employees under his/her supervision and discusses work performance problems w/ them. Monitors time and attendance, makes adjustments as needed to assignments to ensure work is completed. Responsible for efficient overall sanitation throughout NFS. Conducts menu conferences, completes schedules, assignments, cold prep sheets, records temperatures and completes necessary tray assembly area paperwork. Oversees Diet Communication center in absence of their supervisor. Ability to utilize software related to food service, as well as microsoft word processing/spreadsheets. Candidate must be flexible, may be assigned day or evening tour, weekends and holidays. Works under immediate supervision of Cook Supervisor. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be Servsafe certified or able to pass examination. Must be able to work with tight deadlines, staffing concerns and able to work with a diverse population. This is a working supervisor position, and is required to perform all tasks in event of staffing shortages.
