Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Workers at this grade operate electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift trucks. The forklift trucks have automatic or manual transmissions with up to four forward speeds and controls to lift and lower loads. The operators drive forklift trucks over wood, concrete, or similar type floors through narrow aisles in buildings and in such confined places as railroad cars and trucks. They occasionally drive outside over rough surfaces.
- Must know how high, wide and long the forklift and loads are, and how much the forklift can safely lift.
- Must be able to tell whether the forklift is able to lift the load and whether the load is properly balanced.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to do the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
- Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc.
- Dexterity and safety
- Knowledge of materials
- Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
- Work practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
The work consists of well-structured and related steps and procedures pertaining to specific and clear-cut assignments. Actions to be taken are easily determined and any problems arising during the action process can be referred to the supervisor for decision and instruction.
In deciding how to go about the accomplishment of an assignment, the employee must consult the supervisor. In some cases, the employee must weigh the few obvious alternatives in the light of the detailed instructions and the objectives of the specific task.
