Duties

  • You will assist in fueling and de-fueling tanker trucks, as well as fueling aircraft or Navy combatant ships.
  • You will assist in using various fittings and adapters to establish secure mechanical connections, ensuring the prevention of spills and product loss.
  • You will operate pumps and accessory equipment to load, unload, and transfer fuel through pipelines and hoses, moving fuel to and from storage tanks, tankers, ships, barges, and tank trucks, all under the close guidance of a senior worker.
  • You will record fuel transfers and apply seals to tank trucks. Additionally, you will gauge tanks using a calibrated plumb bob and tape, and document gauge readings, scale readings, and the volumes transferred.
  • You will perform various pier-side duties during fueling and unloading operations of ships, barges, and tankers, including docking assistance, line handling, and hose management.
  • You will perform basic preventative maintenance actions as a member of the quality assurance surveillance team.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may be coded as “key” and as such you may be required be removed from military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
  • This position requires the ability to climb, stoop, lift, pull, and withstand heavy exertion; have good vision in both eyes correctable to 20/20; work requires close visual attention and normal color vision
  • This position requires the ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective clothing such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, high visibility clothing, etc.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

You will be required to complete the Competency Based Certification (CBC) program for Fuel Distribution Systems Worker (WG-5413-04), including completion of a 40-hour HAZWOPER course and Navy training courses related to operation of cranes, boats and skimmers, and barges.

This position requires working outside and will occasionally be exposed to all weather conditions.

This position requires driving in all types of traffic and weather is exposed to the possibility of serious injury. The occupational hazards are those directly involved in handling or transporting fuels on station or on commercial highways, in cities, and in restricted areas such as narrow piers and secondary roads. Work may be dirty, dusty, and/or greasy.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
