The FBI Laboratory seeks a Front-end Developer/Game Developer/Interactive Product Developer/Interactive Media Developer to create custom interactive demonstrative exhibits to support trials and investigations. Duties

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in applying the concepts, principles and methods of graphic/UX design, including typography, composition and color theory to products for criminal, investigative, operational and law enforcement matters.
  • Design and develop custom, interactive media products using the Unity Pro game engine.
  • Write efficient, reusable and scalable code (C#) to build custom game functionality and interactive components.
  • Optimize and debug Unity products to ensure best performance and usability.
  • Create custom three-dimensional models and animations using 3ds Max or similar modeling software.
  • Deploy to major crime scenes, including shootings and bombings, to provide crime scene sketching and other visual services.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain an SCI clearance.
  • Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Some travel may be required.
  • This position may potentially be exposed to situations or information that depicts violent acts, lewd images, or involves isolated working conditions.
  • As a condition of employment, DNA samples are required from all FBI personnel who interact with evidence or federal DNA database samples in Laboratory Division (LD) space or whose work requires them to enter LD examination areas where evidence or DNA database samples are processed or examined as part of the quality control process to detect sample/evidence contamination, in accordance with the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), 75 Deferral Register (FR) 68932; 29 C.F.R. 1635.8(b)(6).
  • Must pass a U.S. Government HAZMAT physical upon reporting for duty.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience using the Unity Pro game engine to develop games or interactive products.
  • Experience writing efficient, reusable and scalable code in C#, C++ and/or Python to create interactive products.
  • Experience optimizing and debugging Unity products.
  • Experience producing other types of visual products, including traditional 2D/3D graphics, videos, and websites.
GS-12: In addition to the mentioned above, applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience creating 3D models and animations using 3ds Max or similar software for video or real-time simulation output.
Desired Skills

Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants.
Desired Skills are:
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have work experience in using Unity Pro to create interactive, real-time simulations.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a degree in a related discipline (Visual Communication, Game/Simulation Development, Game Design, Graphic Design, Web Design, Web Development, Multimedia Design or in a field related to the position) and a minimum of three to five years of experience in applying the concepts, principles and methods of graphic design.

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.

GS 12: Education may not be substituted for specialized experience.

Additional information

Selected applicant may be eligible for up to 20% Recruitment Incentive. Selectee will be required to sign a 2-year agreement upon receipt of the Recruitment Incentive.
