Duties

As a General Engineer (Final Assembly and Testing), you will:

  • Reports to the Deputy Director of the VIRGINIA Class Construction and Naval Reactor Industrial Base Division.
  • Focus on developing a strategy and providing oversight for Final Assembly and Test for VIRGINIA Class submarines to enable efficient construction to meet delivery span to meet the Navy's requirements.
  • Improve engineering liability management, first time quality, and construction planning and execution.
  • Plan and oversee activities across various ships in post-delivery phases, coordinating and reporting on technical, budget, and contractual work, and managing PSA planning and execution.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for sophisticated and technologically advanced research programs and develops, reviews, and recommends changes in strategic or long range program plans and/or standards and regulatory guidance.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the short-range and long-range goals of the NNPP.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NN-03 or GS-13 level or equivalent in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

  1. Professional knowledge of techniques of nuclear propulsion, mechanical, and electrical engineering
  2. Professional knowledge testing and shipyard work in a construction environment
  3. Provide complex problem resolution for equipment associated with the construction/operation of nuclear-powered warships

Education

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEER:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering OR
  • Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate professional field, provided you have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. OR
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. OR
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico allows eligibility only if your registration is within or closely related to nuclear engineering.
