Duties
1. Maintains, repairs and overhauls a variety of specialty purpose heavy mobile, electromotive and MEWPs equipment such as cranes, loaders, backhoes, tractors, trailers, 4K-25K forklifts, man/material lift equipment (MLE), hand trucks, scissor lifts, aerial platform lifts, aerial boom lifts, utility vehicles and other associated equipment. Work involves troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and conducting regular/recurring maintenance on a variety of electric, gasoline, diesel, propane, and multi-fuel engines, transmission and gear reduction systems, drive-line and rear axle assemblies, trans-axles, hydraulic power-assist systems, fuel injection systems, exhaust and emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies. Repairs, overhaul, tear-down/rebuild, modifies, and maintains a variety of systems and components of electronic systems and accessories including ignition systems, charging and starting systems, and wiring and lighting systems; carburetor and fuel injection systems; and emission control systems. Diagnoses malfunctions and repairs/replaces parts and/or components such as motors, voltage regulators, current relays, sensors, breakers, contactors, switches, controls, and wiring as required. Synchronizes remote and manual electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls. Ensuring repairs have been done correctly including all scheduled routine/non-routine inspections, warranty defects and break-in services to detour future failures of equipment. Inspects all systems and components for condition and proper operation. Interprets gauge and/or meter readings and recalibrate systems as required for proper operations.
2. Maintains, repairs and overhauls a variety of specialty purpose automotive high-powered engines and transmissions. Work involves troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and conducting regular/recurring maintenance. Rebuilds, fabricates or overhauls a variety of high-powered engines and transmissions of a complex nature that requires precise repairing, fitting, and adjusting of moving parts, such as multiple drive systems, multi system transmissions, and intricate fuel injection systems. Performs repairs, adjusts or replacements of combination pneumatic, electro, hydraulic and mechanical systems or subsystems. Performs various repairs with steel and metal fabrication. Conducts functional and performance tests using a wide range of test procedures and equipment. Utilizes complex inspection techniques and special inspection and measuring devices such as dynamometers, torque wrenches, oscilloscopes, etc. Tasks involve disassembly/reassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, cleaning, and servicing components and sub-assemblies. Repairs or replaces shafts, gears, piping, pulleys, valves, flexible couplings, and bearings. Replaces worn or defective parts with new, reconditioned, or fabricated parts by welding and machining. Repairs bent or broken superstructure parts and units such as supports, safety guards, guides and rollers. Removes and replaces complete assemblies and sub-assemblies, which are beyond scope of reconditioning, with available resources and equipment. Calibrates safety units and limiting equipment to insure proper operation.
3. Operates service crane truck to perform all services. Uses common and specialty diagnostic tools, orders parts, completes documentation, and serves as organization SME to assist and provide to advise less experienced technicians. Interprets and applies manufacturers' repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings and diagnostic codes. Uses diagnostic computer printouts, reports, visual inspection, auditory tests, and test equipment such as computerized engine analyzers, compression testers, test benches, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and special feeler and dial gauges. Researches parts using appropriate technical orders, repair manuals, and manufacturers' catalogs.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience or education and knowledge of the maintenance operations and technical practices, mechanical make-up, major/minor repair, diagnosing and testing of parts and working relationships of heavy mobile equipment, electromotive equipment, and automotive specialty vehicles. Specialized knowledge of electrical techniques to make engine adjustments, set points, and time engines according to established specifications. Skill in using a variety of general purpose hand and power tools. Skill in measuring, fitting, and installing components. Ability to select, interpret, and apply appropriate repair manuals to test, troubleshoot and repair a variety of equipment and vehicles. Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs & occasionally over 50 lbs. Frequently bends, stoops, crawls and works in tight spaces. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical is required. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a T1 background. Must possess a valid driver's license. This is a drug tested designated position.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
