Duties
This position is located at the Inns of the Corps Hawaii (IOTC), Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The incumbent performs a variety of housekeeping and custodial duties in assigned locations. Within IOTC are: Standard hotel rooms, 2-bedroom cottages, studio cabanas and 2,3,4-bedroom villas. Each location has a variety of furnishings. Specific instructions are provided where to clean and the methods to use. This is a non-sensitive position.
Incumbent performs a wide range of cleaning tasks using various types of equipment. Typically, each housekeeper has an assigned daily section and/or common areas. These tasks are done while providing world class customer service. These will include but not be limited to the following: making beds, changing linen, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, and emptying trash cans. Additionally, guest room bathrooms, including: toilets, floor showers and tubs; wash basins, mirrors and walls. Required to wax and/or polish hardwood furniture and shampoo upholstered furniture in rooms and common areas. Kitchen area cleaning includes: cleaning the refrigerator, stoves, microwaves, washing dishes (pots, pans, glasses, etc.), range hood, wiping down cabinets and floors. Common area duties may include: cleaning public toilets, sweeping, mopping, buffing and vacuuming. The incumbent may be required to empty large trash cans (weighing up to 40 lb) from public areas and take trash to the dumpster containers located as much as 300 feet from the building. Quarterly deep cleans may include: shampooing carpets, changing encasements, baseboards and light fixtures. Incumbent also takes inventory of the furnishings daily, replaces any missing items and reports all maintenance discrepancies. Required to read housekeeping assignments. Strong cleaning solutions and ladders are used in performing the above duties. Responsible for inspecting assigned guest rooms before releasing check out rooms. Responsible for reporting all missing, damaged or destroyed property immediately to supervisor. Turns in all lost property found on premises to supervisor.
Will perform miscellaneous duties to include: reporting any unauthorized visitors or other suspicious incidents to supervisor, moving heavy items of furniture and supplies/ equipment, making adjustments and minor repairs on the industrial type equipment frequently used. Required to meet and provide excellent customer service. Will provide additional service when requested or refer guest to the appropriate department. The incumbent will remain in assigned work area during normal working hours. Incumbent is required to work independently and is responsible. Must have a valid driver¿s license to operate company vehicles to be transported from one work place to another.

Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts supervisor when larger issues arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Must be able to work independently. Must have knowledge concerning all aspects of rooms assigned, including but not limited to: Inventory and restocking supplies and amenities. Must be knowledgeable and adept in proper cleaning techniques of various types of furniture and furnishings. Must be able to use common cleaning tools, cleaning agents and industrial type vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners and buffers.
Must be able to identify and call in for repair all maintenance problems; alert management when problems concerning guest treatment occurs; makes independent decisions regarding property and supplies in rooms such as damaged furniture, carpets, damaged linen and supplies. Initial on the job training is provided with a continuous ongoing training program. Must be able to read signs, follow written and oral instructions. Must be knowledgeable in fire, safety and security requirements.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The immediate supervisor is the Housekeeper Manager, NF-3. The work is performed independently according to Inns of the Corps, policies and procedures. The work is reviewed by supervisor or Lead Housekeeper. Guidance for special duties will be provided by the Manager or Housekeeping Lead.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Involves physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, pushing cleaning carts, carrying portable cribs; moving heavy beds, sofas, dressers, and TV armoires; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching; moving and placing heavy linen in linen rooms; frequently pushes carts loaded with dirty laundry or waste paper and trash, and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 lbs independently and over 45 lbs with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbent is frequently exposed to heavy lifting, possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, strains, sprains, and skin irritations from use of strong cleaning solutions. Care is required to avoid injuries. The work is primarily performed indoors, however some duties required are outside.
