Duties

The purpose of this position is to aid in the operation and oversight of Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR) Fitness centers, Outdoor Training Areas, Fitness Programs, Human Performance programs and Active-Duty Recreation Centers at MCB Camp Pendleton and MCLB Barstow. Incumbent reports to the Readiness Department Head.

Majority of the time is spent writing policy, creating and facilitating training, and inspecting programs and facilities for compliance.  Incumbent is responsible for the training of Marines and civilian staff members within Semper Fit.  Training will include CPR training, Marine Corps Total Fitness (MCTF) and standard facility operations for all staff assigned to fitness centers and Active-Duty Recreation Facilities.  Responsible for the development and implementation of civilian Readiness department staff fitness and health programming procedures, use of assessment equipment and process standardization.

Responsible for maintaining staff listing and required certifications.  Aiding staff in maintaining certifications, setting up training opportunities, and studying to pass required certifications.   Ensures staff is compliant with required certifications per their position description.

Coordinates with department head and supervisors to aid in the hiring process. Coordinates with HR on employee turn-over to include exit paperwork, position openings, screening applicants and setting up interviews.  May be responsible for maintaining fitness and health contracted employees.  To include interviewing, submitting contracts to procurement, supervising contactors and maintaining contracts.

Performs visits and inspections of all facilities to maintain quality service for more than 2 million patrons served annually.   Fitness facilities and Active-Duty Recreation Centers (to include Barstow) will be inspected monthly for policy, proper signage, needs and appearances. Reports results to Fitness Facilities Supervisor and Recreation Center Supervisor for corrections.

Audits the electronic fitness equipment repair system which is responsible for the timely repairs of more than 5 million dollars of equipment across fitness facilities.   Ensures equipment is properly accounted for in system and corrects entries where needed.  Trains new staff on proper utilization of the system. Provides analysis of the data within the system and recommends efficiencies and improvements. 

Responsible for all Readiness department social media postings. Postings to Instagram and Facebook will be completed at least once a week.  Coordinate posts with other Semper Fit and MCCS social media outlets. 

Works in coordination with the Fitness Facilities Supervisor, Fitness Programs Supervisor, and Human Performance Supervisor to create programs, standard operating procedures and ensure proper training on fitness assessments, fitness training programs, etc. Assists the Fitness Programs Supervisor and the Human Performance Supervisor in the implementation of all programming.  Ensures programs incorporate the Marine Corps Total Fitness paradigm and looks for innovations and improvements.

Researches the fitness and health industry best practices, new developments, equipment, and facilities to keep the department abreast of changes in the industry.  Recommends improvements to facilities and programs based on findings.

Works with department head to complete any regional taskers, headquarters requirements, data analysis, reports etc. Contributes to the Semper Fit Strategic Plan by being part of an initiative team.  Provides input and direction to Semper Fit Strategic Plan to help shape the direction and relevancy of Semper Fit programs.  Promotes Semper Fit programs to commands, units and leadership.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

A minimum of four years¿ experience that demonstrates a working knowledge of fitness facilities, health and wellness programs, and a bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college/university in a fitness or health related field is required. Must be certified as a personal fitness trainer by one of the following certifying agencies; Cooper Institute, A.C.E. (American Council on Exercise), N.S.C.A. (National Strength and Conditioning Association), or A.C.S.M. (American College of Sports Medicine) is preferred. This certification must be kept current throughout employment. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: excel, word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and navigating the web.  Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.  Must have excellent customer service skills, and the ability to successful, plan, organize and supervise. Incumbent must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, both inside and outside the organization.
