Duties
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and may be posted up to June 30, 2023.. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be Wednesday December 28th with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st and 15th of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Greets patients and visitors in a pleasant and courteous manner.
- Provides information and directions to patients and visitors including assisting with physical transportation of Veterans within the clinics.
- Provides transportation of Veterans to clinic appointments including general wayfinding.
- Answer phone calls from staff to staff when the Nurses are busy and unable to do so, taking calls from clinicians or other related medical personnel.
- Attempts to clarify needs, provides direct answers and/or ensures that responses to callers are expedited.
- Ensures that there is a wheelchair available in the clinic at all times for unexpected patient use/need
- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

GS-03 Grade Level:
General Experience: Six (6) months of general experience; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. General experience includes but is not limited to: Operating and maintaining equipment used for patient care; Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; Knowledge of computer programs; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; Customer service in a setting the required active listening, conflict resolution; empathy, nonverbal communication, negotiation skills, organization, and professionalism; Assisting or providing support duties to medical personnel or patients in a clinical setting; Ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Education: Successfully completed post-high school education is qualifying for grade GS-3. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
OR;
Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. For GS-3 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the 6 months' experience required for GS-3; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the one (1) year of education that meets the requirements for GS-3. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-3.

Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of standing, with minor bending, lifting and pushing. The work may include carrying different sizes and weights of items. The work also requires agility and dexterity to handle papers, books, charts, boxes of copier paper and medical supplies.
Work Environment: The work environment involves regular and recurring exposure to infections and contagious diseases, as well as working with infectious substances, irritant reagents, and potentially emotionally disturbed patients. The work environment may also be at any of the buildings on the main ambulatory care clinic or community-based outpatient clinics. The incumbent is required to follow infection control policies relating to the use of standard precautions and posted isolation practices. The policies may require the wearing of protective gowns, gloves, masks and eyewear.
