Basic Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of a Health Science Specialist - Research Study Coordinator. In addition to the basic education requirement, all applicants must meet one of the minimum qualification requirements as follows:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Health Science Specialist - Research. Qualifying specialized experience includes: designing, overseeing, implementing, and/or participating in scientific research studies; developing and updating policies and procedures related to research; monitoring compliance with requirements; conducting program assessments and prepares reports necessary to program continuity and reporting; and inspecting equipment and monitoring maintenance of major laboratory equipment. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

EDUCATION: Have successfully completed three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly related field of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

COMBINATION: Possess an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, to meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: Work is active, involving constant interaction with other laboratory personnel and investigators in the conduct of the research. There may occasionally· be long hours and repetitive motions. There is also a substantial component of sedentary work in data collection, analyses and writing of manuscripts. Travel to scientific conferences may be expected.
