This announcement is open to all active-duty Public Health Service (PHS) officers of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps.

Duties

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's, Office of Health Equity (OHE), Office of Minority Health (OMH) is seeking a motivated PHS officer to serve as Health Scientist (O-6 Billet) Supervisory. The PHS officer selected for this assignment will serve as a recognized agency authority or consultant for health programs and conducts scientific research to develop a national system (or) system to monitor public health capacity and performance at local, state and national levels.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a recognized expert in health sciences for the agency
  • Developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for health science studies
  • Analyzing epidemiologic investigation data utilizing new methodologies or existing techniques that have been extensively revised.
  • Providing technical advice to state and local health agencies and to various other health-related organizations
  • Consulting with epidemiologists, statisticians, and public health professionals concerning on-going and established studies or other projects
  • Developing and prepares bibliographies that identify critical issues and areas for future research.
  • Serving as a Project Officer on grants, cooperative agreements and contracts
  • Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules

  • Must be a current active-duty PHS officer of the USPHS Commissioned Corps
  • Must meet USPHS Commissioned Corps basic readiness
  • Must not have any current or pending adverse actions
  • May be subject to a Background Investigation
  • May be required to obtain at least a Secret or higher-level clearance

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

The position requires qualifications and skills to include specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include:
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CC-O5 billet grade level as a consultant for health programs conducting scientific research to develop a national system to monitor public health capacity and performance at local, state, and national levels.

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

Salary:Please note that the salary is dependent on factors such as officer's rank, years in service, and location of duty station.
