Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience requirements.
Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
In addition to meeting the above Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR), applicants must also meet the experience and/or directly related education relevant to this position.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
- Recognize and use common medical terminology to communicate with medical personnel and patients.
- Record, interpret, and transmit the readings of telemetry equipment to medical personnel.
- Set controls and operate telemetry and associated equipment in accordance with safety and technical standards.
- Provide assistance in a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis of treatment of cardiac rhythm or medical conditions.
- Performs arrhythmia reviews to record and report deviations in rhythms to nursing staff. NOTE: This experience must be fully documented on your resume to be creditable and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR;
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-06 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one half year of graduate education (9 semester hours or equivalent) with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position. Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR;
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-06 level. You must have an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.
