Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

Education and Training
For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
For GS-6: Generally not applicable
For GS-7: One (1) full year of graduate education.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
For GS-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months general experience and 6 months specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Use of practical patient care procedures and understanding the procedures being preformed. Responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures. Prepares, organizes and maintains the sterile surgical set-ups.
For GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Basic asepsis principles, microbiology and medical procedures sufficient to understand how diseases and infections are transmitted, the importance of clean and sterile supplies to patient care, the use of medical instruments and supplies, the advantages and disadvantages of the various sterilizing mediums and the precautions necessary to maintain sterility of supplies. Responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures. Prepares, organizes and maintains the sterile surgical set-ups.
For GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Knowledge and understanding of how diseases and infections are transmitted, the importance of clean and sterile supplies by using instruments used in the specialization to make adaptations, adjustments and to interpret test results based on observation. Scheduling operations for procedures by using and caring of aseptic principles and techniques for clearing, sterilizing, disinfecting and using antisepsis of techniques.
For GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: knowledge of pre/intra/post-surgical procedures, medical equipment, instrument, and supply terminology to pass instruments to the surgeon and to remove used/contaminated materials from the operating room. Uses standards of patient care such as catheterizing, irrigating and suctioning patients and supporting procedures of patient charting to carry out positioning and draping depending on the type of surgery, size, weight, and age of patient.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Education
Education is not a requirement, however you may submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.
