Duties

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a Health Technician (TITLE 5), GS-0640-7, you will:

  • Serves as the subject matter expert on Individual Medical Readiness (IMR).
  • Responsible for collection, input, and management of medical readinessinformation for the Battalion/Squadron and subordinate units.
  • Coordinates and ensures the timely and accurate input of data regarding physicals, dental,immunizations, HIV/DNA, and profiling into the automated medical records and management systems.
  • Requires the ability to organize and research patientrecords, extract needed information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines.
  • Generates medicalmanagement information reports for the Battalion/Squadron and staff.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations for assessing and meeting the unit's medical and dental readiness requirements.
  • Provides detailed information regarding the processes and procedures needed to develop action plans to increase medical readiness.
  • Develops and provides regular/recurring IMR reports to subordinate units to support the scheduling of annual medical readiness requirements. .
  • Reviews, validates, and forwards requests for temporary and/or permanent medical actions to include profile determination and medical boards (e.g. fitness for duty evaluation (FFDE), military occupational skills/medical retention board (MMRB), medical evaluation board/physical evaluation board (MEB/PEB)).
  • Monitors the execution of all medical readiness events (military and civilian) to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations and that required documentation is submitted to facilitate payment.
  • Monitors the posting of updated information derived from annual and recurring medical requirements (e.g. periodic health assessments (PHA), required immunizations, dental exams, physicals exams, profiling requirements) and other directed medical readiness requirements.
  • Provides reports identifying enlisted medical personnel sustainment training requirements to the training specialist.
  • As a member of the command readiness inspection team, collects data and/or information used in the evaluation of individual medical readiness.
  • Adheres to and provides guidance to subordinate units concerning regulations, policies, directives, and standards pursuant to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and the release of medical information/records.
  • Advises the Battalion/Squadron staff on manual and automated medical record management programs relative to documentation, regulations, directives, and organizational readiness reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Position may be telework eligible after completion of probationary period based on the needs of the organization.

Specialized Experience:

OR have experience that equipped yourself with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • Knowledge of a standardized body of laws, regulations, and procedures to provide regulatory guidance and recommendations to the Battalion/Squadron and subordinate personnel in the area of medical readiness and standards of fitness.
  • Knowledge of procedures for requesting military and civilian medical support resources to coordinate, execute, and update required documentation that supports individual medical readiness.
  • In-depth knowledge of the automated medical records and management system to provide guidance and instruction to Battalion/Squadron and subordinate units for the timely and accurate input of data.
  • Practical knowledge to retrieve and/or query data to develop reports essential to support the command's medical readiness requirements.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medical procedures, civilian medical coding, and other medical requirements sufficient to analyze available data, identify trends and shortfalls, and provide recommendations for improvement actions.
  • Knowledge of the regulations, policies, and procedures that apply to the physical evaluation system (fitness for duty evaluation, military occupational skills/medical retention board (MMRB), medical evaluation board/physical evaluation board (MEB/PEB)) to facilitate timely and accurate adjudication of medical board actions.
  • Broad knowledge of automated medical occupational data systems utilized to manage, report, and track medical qualifications and certifications.
  • Knowledge of military and civilian continuing education requirements to obtain and maintain military medical qualifications.
  • Knowledge of medical readiness indicators sufficient to assist in conducting subordinate unit inspections and assistance visits.
  • Knowledge of the organizational readiness reporting process.
  • Knowledge of administrative regulations sufficient to assist with organizational mail, file systems, and publications. Ability to use automated or manual systems in the preparation of reports and correspondence required by the organization.
