Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Knowledgeable of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil or other engineering/architectural principles, practices and their applications in the healthcare environment.
- Knowledgeable of healthcare industry standards and related regulatory agency and organization (including, but not limited to The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), etc.) regulations, requirements, guides, policies, procedures, directives, standards and general medical program requirements as they relate to healthcare engineering.
- Maintains knowledge of the state of the art in SPS technology, including scientific advances, network protocols, and vendor changes. Focuses on professional development in all areas of SPS technology lifecycle management including technical skills.
- Knowledgeable of construction standards, methods, practices and techniques, materials and equipment to determine compliance with engineering regulations and standards.
- Implements and plans for new and emerging technologies including but not limited to network management, storage, and virtual data centers.
- Completes both routine and complex assignments involved identifying and troubleshooting issues related to VLAN configuration, IP addressing, sub-netting, Access Control List (ACL) and network security.
- Utilizes advanced network test equipment and software including but not limited to tracers, wireless spectrum analyzers, network traffic monitors, command prompt, physical and virtual server software.
- Manages, troubleshoots and maintains complete systems of computerized networks, databases and servers in support of SPS information systems for which Device Isolation Architecture (DIA) would apply.
- Skilled in researching and analyzing information, conditions, human factors and projections to make sound engineering and business recommendations and decisions to proactively identify problems and develop innovative solutions within the context of applicable rules, regulations and procedures.
- Designs, implements and manages network incident response due to infection, loss of service or regional and local policy changes according to VA guidelines.
- Ensures proper security configuration for assigned devices and networks.
- Regularly reviews and installs available approved software updates and virus definitions for applicable networked SPS devices.
- Functions as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and keeps appropriate certification levels.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements for this position are those physical, mental, and emotional capabilities and characteristics that are essential for successful job performance. Physically, the incumbent must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, work in awkward and cramped positions, and be able to lift at least 25 pounds. In addition, the incumbent must successfully demonstrate mental and emotional fortitude in balancing available resources to achieve tight deadlines, competing priorities, and policy execution.

GS-9 $75,567 to $98,235
GS-11 $91,428 to $118,851
GS-12 $105,307 to $136,905
