Conditions of employment

- Subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, electric shock, falls from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, and dropping moderately heavy items, and possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gasses.
- This position requires frequent wearing of protective clothing and devices such as goggles, respirators, heavy aprons, hard hats, and gloves.
- This position is subject to emergency recall - 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to perform emergency repairs as necessary during off duty hours.
- Must obtain and maintain an EPA certification, from an approved institute, for the handling and control of refrigerants and other Ozone Depleting Substances (OZDs). The certification card must be carried by the incumbent when handling refrigerants.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Independently (1) install, maintain, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC systems contained in commercial facilities, buildings, and infrastructure; (2) interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints to repair HVAC systems; (3) maintain tools and equipment
to troubleshoot and repair air conditioning units and/or refrigeration systems and; (4) recognize the cause of faulty equipment by pretesting, disassembling, adjusting, modifying and final testing commercial and industrial HVAC systems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Physical Effort: Installations and repairs are made from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Some parts of systems needing repair are in hard to reach places. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions is required. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing more.

Education
Some positions allow for the substitution of education in place of experience, there is no substitution for education for this position.
