Duties
This position performs the following duties:
- Inspects, installs, overhauls, repairs and adjusts all components associated with heavy, light equipment and vehicles.
- Rebuilds and modifies chassis and framework of heavy duty and construction equipment.
- Performs all maintenance on rotary snow blowers with interconnected engines, snow plows, and sanders with pre wet systems.
- Uses a wide variety of test equipment associated with new generation gas and diesel power units to trace/diagnose malfunctions and determine appropriate repairs needed.
- Evaluates cost of repairing equipment vs the cost of contracting the repair, arranging transportation for all contracted repairs as well as tracking the status of the repair.
- Performs MIG, TIG, and Arc welding of mild steel, aluminum and stainless steel.
- Performs snow removal operations on an intermittent and/or reoccurring scheduled work plan to include various shifts and days throughout the year.
Physical Demands: Frequently lifts and carries objects of about 20 to 100 pounds. Frequently must stand, stop, stretch, bend, and work in tiring positions. Must be able to work in severe weather conditions.
Work Environment: Works indoors when possible, however field repairs comprise a major portion of incumbent duties. Incumbent is exposed to drafts, fumes and loud noises. Must stand and lie on hard and sometimes cold and damp floors. Subject to soiling from dirt, grease, oil, and battery acids and is subject to possible cuts, bruises, burns, strains, and high winds at below freezing temperatures.
Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites. Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country.
This position is located in Colter Bay, WY. Services are available in the nearby town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow.

- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- You must possess and maintain a current Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Occupancy of government quarters is required.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Applicants must show in their application package that they have the ability to do all of the following: identifying the type and extent of repair needed on and have experience performing repairs on heavy trucks, equipment, and automotive vehicles in a full-service auto shop; repairing spark plugs; replacing water hoses; installing water pumps; replacing brake pads; replacing accessory belts; changing the oil on gas and diesel engines. In addition, applicants must possess a current Class B Commercial Driver's license or higher with air brake and tanker endorsement and provide proof of licensure in application
