There is no required length of time of qualifying experience or training. However, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to support the SCREEN-OUT Element of: Your ability to perform the duties of aHeavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) Applying knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of heavy-duty systems, assemblies, and parts, including major systems, such as: diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines, supercharges/turbo charged engines to overhaul and rebuild heavy mobile systems and vehicles; (2) Applying knowledge of automatic and manual transmissions and gear reduction systems, including those with torque converters, planetary gears, and more than one gear range to overhaul and rebuild heavy mobile systems and vehicles; (3) Determining how electrical, transistorized, and/or other non-mechanical systems tie in with and affect the operation of mechanical systems; (4) Utilizing electric and gas welders; cutting torches, presses, metal lathes and grinders to make welding repairs; (5) Fabricating simple parts or structural reinforcement; and (6) Utilizing tools of trade including power equipment and electronic test equipment gauges, micrometer, etc.

Additional SCREEN-OUT Element: This position performs repair, service, and maintenance of heavy equipment and a non-restricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement is required. Physical Demands: The work of the position requires active physical effort, to include walking, standing, lifting objects up to 50 pounds, stooping, and working in cramped positions. Occasionally, strenuous physical effort is exerted in climbing and carrying and using hand tools in the repair of powered equipment. Manual dexterity is necessary when disassembling, repairing, and reassembling units. Visual and auditory senses are relied upon to coordinate the diagnosis of mechanical failures and
the resulting equipment repairs.
Working Conditions: The incumbent works in areas that are frequently dusty, dirty, and/or greasy, and is exposed to oils, fuels, solvents, noxious gases, and fumes that could result in burns, infections, and cuts. Works is performed both indoors and outdoors. The incumbent must be capable of working satisfactorily in adverse conditions of cold, heat, rain, snow, humidity, and high insect density.
