There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in completing both minor and major repairs in accordance with approved work orders; Assigning work to others based on own assessments of individual employee experience, skills, workload, and competence. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:
Makes repairs on equipment or in installations often on high or hard to reach areas from ladders or platforms. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items and operates equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Works outside the majority of time in all types of weather. Is subject to injury by tools, equipment, missiles, and similar objects. Is exposed to mud, dirt, dust, chemical compounds, high noise levels, burns, and fumes. Is subject to danger of falls and drowning while working on moving equipment and structures over or on water. Works behind bulkheads below water level. Characteristically works on or adjacent to water. Occasionally works at heights over 30 feet.
