This is a DHA solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position will work on military vehicles, generators, and components for the US Army Aviation and Missile Command, Fort Sill, Ok.

Duties

  • Perform inspections on a variety of vehicles in accordance with established procedures.
  • Utilize testing equipment such as compression, vacuum, leak meter and wheel adjusting gauges, brake testing equipment, timing light, tachometer, hydrometer, etc.
  • Check work orders to ensure all necessary repairs have been completed.
  • Sign inspection reports to certify that vehicles are in satisfactory operating condition.
  • Review maintenance sheets to ensure that all required items have been covered.

  • This position requires Heavy lifting of 75 lbs. is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the common Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector duties which includes inspections and test services on various heavy-duty mobile equipment, wheel vehicles, artillery systems, M270 and M270A1MLRS, M109A3-A6 Howitzers, M981 FISTV, M992 FAASSV, Bradley, Stryker and other tracked and wheeled combat vehicles from HMMWV through 10 ton HEMMTT, HIMARS and related equipment; Using test equipment such as gauges, compression tester, timing light, tachometer, and hydrometer to check overall engine performance; Identifying repair part needed; Reviewing maintenance sheets during course of repairs to certify items have been completed. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Incumbent works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crouching. May work on top of, under, and in tight compartments of vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently lifts and carry items, unassisted, weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds, and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies and equipment. Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. Sometimes required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights.
  • Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. When inside, incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. When outside, incumbent sometimes works in bad weather, in mud or snow, or in wet or icy areas. Both inside and outside, incumbent is exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, and fumes. Employee typically works on parts and systems, which are dirty, oily or greasy. Employee is subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning and moving equipment. Follows prescribed practices and uses appropriate safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hardhats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, etc. Some safety items may be uncomfortable, and may be worn for long periods.
