Position is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of eight (8) years.
This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service.
Employee must have a current performance rating at least fully successful or equivalent.
THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE SOLICITATION - These positions are being advertised through the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities. Under this authority, competitive rating/ranking and veterans' preference procedures do not apply.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Qualifying work is defined as common Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer tasks assisting higher grade mechanics in the repair, rebuild, and overhaul, and testing of various fuel and electric/subassemblies associated with specific type of engine, such as turbine or reciprocating, gear boxes, transmissions and various automotive vehicle components and work performed in an assembly line area, rebuilding a variety of vehicles such , automobiles, heavy mobile equipment, combat and tactical vehicles and interpreting technical manuals, standard operating procedures, drawings and shop project orders. Qualifying work is performed under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves standing, bending, working in cramped position. Constantly lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in building that is moderately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Work is dirty and greasy and incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises from use of tools and equipment. Exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
