This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The position is located at the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Fleet Management Expansion, Fort Moore, GA.

Duties

  • Perform field level maintenance and repair on heavy mobile equipment and vehicles such as track vehicles, tanks, and combat vehicles.
  • Perform operational inspections and troubleshoot in order to diagnose and repair vehicles.
  • Conduct services and repairs, including, but not limited to, removing and replacing new or rebuilt assemblies such as regulators, generators, alternators.
  • Trace and locate defects which cause hydraulic and other major systems to fail or not perform to specifications regarding power output, speed and pressure.
  • Analyze functions and determine the extent of repairs by visual and auditory examinations.
  • Use a wide variety of diagnostic equipment such as electronic test equipment and diagnostic analyzer, diagnostic breakout assemblies, etc.
  • Replace and repair controller units on transmission solenoids of transmissions.
  • Select the tools, test, and measuring devices(s) needed to diagnose the malfunction of heavy mobile equipment and/or vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot heavy mobile equipment systems in order to determine the extent of required services and/or repairs.
  • Perform road tests and other requirements as needed.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This is a Testing Drug Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing as condition of employment. The incumbent of this position must sign a DA Form 5019-R as a condition of employment and periodic and random urinalysis drug testing.
  • The duty of the position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's License and Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification Card.
  • The duty of this position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid military Driver's certification/license to operate equipment/vehicles for job performance.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) employee required to report or remain at work to support mission operations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 pounds in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer (Motor Vehicle Operator) duties. Assist higher level mechanics to disassemble engines, gear boxes, transmissions or other heavy mobile equipment and vehicle components. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort - Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The work requires frequent and prolonged standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top of, under, and in tight compartments of vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds, and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment. Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of others, or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Works from ladders or work platforms at varying heights.
  • Working Conditions - Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. When indoors, is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise which is difficult to talk above. When outdoors, occasionally works in inclement weather, in heat, mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas. Both indoors and outdoors, exposure to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, asbestos, and fumes. Typically works on parts and systems which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Is subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices, hard-toe shoes, and other safety equipment. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods of time.
