Holistic Health Dietician, SBD2

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Buckley SFB, CO is searching for a Holistic Health Dietician for SBD2 (NH-0630-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).

As the Dietitian in the Guardian Resilience Team (GRT), assesses, analyzes, and determines nutrition needs for the target population using evidenced-based epidemiological principles, and uses evidenced-based nutrition education and behavior change theories to develop, budget, coordinate, implement, market, and evaluate comprehensive nutrition programs. With a goal of human performance optimization and enhancement as well as disease and injury prevention for the target population, assesses, analyzes, and evaluates the nutrition education and/or intervention needs. Employee uses judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines, analyzes results, and recommends changes.
Observes and/or participates in squadron activities in order to identify nutrition and dietary stressors that increase risk of mission-related performance decrements or adverse health outcomes. Integrates into the full spectrum of Delta activities, observing personnel in the conduct of their duties across the full span of worksites, processes, and shifts. To the maximum extent allowed by policy, security, physical ability, and safety, participates in Delta/Squadron activities being observed to include all mission sets, functional teams, duty locations, and work shifts. Establishes a rapport with unit Guardians. Assesses workplace and installation nutrition environment and opportunities to improve it.
Develops and implements initiatives to improve that installation and work area nutrition environments and Guardians nutrition behaviors. Utilizes information gathered through direct observations at Guardian worksites, interviews with personnel, and objective medical, safety and fitness data. Information will be used to select or develop initiatives to mitigate identified hazards and barriers to optimal health and performance, and to enhance readiness/resiliency.

Serves as a nutrition consultant and advocate to military commanders/senior leaders, other nutrition professionals, and medical staff. Serves as the professional nutrition consultant to commanders, first sergeants, and supervisors. Provides and oversees nutrition education and intervention to support SF policy and meet the needs of agencies/units and Geographically Separated Units. Facilitates environmental assessment and community-based education/intervention (e.g., healthy snacks in vending machines, healthy choices at base dining facilities) to encourage and support healthy eating practices, weight gain prevention, and weight loss maintenance initiatives.)

Management of operational clinical services, resource allocation, and agency partnerships. Position will require the incumbent to implement, develop, and sustain a line-embedded Operational Clinical Services (OCS) facility where healthcare is performed that ensures compliance with all appropriate procedures to maintain Accreditation Organization standards and elements of performance IAW the DoD, DHA, building codes, OSHA guidelines, DAF, and the support MTF's Clinical Quality Management program requirements/requests (e.g., infection control, patient safety, plans of action for building repairs). The incumbent will help leadership initiate, complete, and sustain a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the GRT program and the MTF regarding OCS processes and medical oversight. As a part of the MOA, the incumbent ensures treatment records meet the standards of MTF-sanctioned accreditation agencies for patient care.

Ideal Candidate:
Purpose of position: To serve as a licensed and Registered Dietitian and providing independent primary and secondary intervention services within the Operational Department of the Air Force (DAF), United States Space Force and Military Treatment Facilities. and provide primary prevention skill-building and nutrition education to optimize Guardian physical fitness and performance in the operational environment, reduce incidence of overweight/obesity and associated co-morbidities, and improve overall nutrition related health. Candidate must have experience and/or education in nutrition/dietetics in order to understand when skill-building and education needs to turn into medical nutrition therapy. Candidate then must connect the Guardian to the appropriate Military Treatment Facility for treatment. Serves as a member of an Integrated Operational Support (IOS) team with the Guardian Resilience Team directly supporting HHA with the goal of building resiliency, enhancing human performance, and improving unit mission effectiveness. Administrative duties focus on education and prevention, resourcing for clinical support for those in need.

• May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.

• This position must have a working knowledge of government policy and regulations associated with safeguarding PII and HIPAA information.
• Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
• This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program
