Summary

This position is located at the Rosebud Hospital in Rosebud, South Dakota. The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, conduct and manage the Rosebud Hospital Housekeeping Program.

Duties

  • Directs and provides oversight to in-house housekeeping, linen, laundry, maintenance and repair and dry cleaning services.
  • Develops and implements program operating plans and procedures.
  • Conducts on-the-job training program on the techniques of cleaning materials and chemicals.
  • Develops and implements a housekeeping competency program.
  • Prepares schedules for completion of work, assigned work to subordinates, evaluates work performance.

A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
Position may be subject to rotating shifts and nights/weekends/holidays.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Education
Undergraduate Education:
Major study -- chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position.

Graduate Education: Major study -- public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration. OR

Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the position to be filled:
  • Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment.
  • Experience in laundry and linen management.
  • Experience in interior design management.
  • Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition.
  • Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-9:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 grade level AND/OR master's or equivalent graduate degree or2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

Examples of Specialized Experience
GS-9: Experience managing a hospital housekeeping program. Experience managing laundry/linen services, and/or waste management program within a medical facility; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orientating and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Additional information

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
