Summary

Immediate need for Human Resource (HR) Assistants.

You will serve as an HR Assistant for the Small Business Administration (SBA), People Operations Disaster Division (PODD) to support recent disaster activities in the U.S. This position will work with Specialists and Assistants to accomplish work related to staffing and recruitment, in processing and out-processing of employees, and various special projects.

Duties

As a/an Human Resources Assistant at the GS-0203-6/7, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Initiates, prepares and ensures the timely completion of Standard Form (SF) 52 Request for Personnel Actions and ensures all actions are legal and appropriate in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) handbooks and guidelines.
  • Gathers, reviews, consolidates and prepares required paperwork associated with a variety of personnel actions, ranging in difficulty from routine to complex (e.g., within-grade increases, activation to and from pay/non-pay status, career/career-conditional appointments, promotions, reassignments, details and service computation date calculations).
  • Assists the HR Specialist with reviewing application packages to determine an applicant's eligibility and making qualification determinations for lower graded positions.
  • Obtains preliminary onboarding documents and generates credit reports; reviews for negative or derogatory information and financial issues and presents any irregularities to the HR Specialist.
  • Enters vacancy announcements into the USA Staffing application system.
  • Establishes accurate and complete case files for vacancy announcements in accordance with established procedures and guidance.
  • Provides general information and assistance to employees regarding questions related to Federal Employees' Health Benefits (FEHB), Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI), retirement, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), etc.
  • Informs employees of their benefits options while they are in their non-pay status.

  • This is a temporary appointment in the Excepted service with a Full-Time work schedule.
  • If required to travel to a disaster site, you may encounter hazardous working and/or living conditions, for example, no water or electricity and/or minimal lodging facilities.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 10/15/2024.

Experience: To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on the resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

GS-06: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector:
  • Support work experience related to data-entry, various tasks to support an organization, responding to inquires or requests for information; and
  • Communicating orally with customers about personnel or pay actions to provide or obtain information; and
  • Communicating in writing with customers about personnel or pay actions to provide or obtain information; and
  • Experience utilizing mobile and desktop productivity applications such as web browsers, email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector:
  • Experience in applying a variety of human resource (HR) policies and procedures; and
  • Communicating orally with customers about personnel or pay actions to provide or obtain information; and
  • Communicating in writing with customers about personnel or pay actions to provide or obtain information; and
  • Experience utilizing mobile and desktop productivity applications such as web browsers, email, spreadsheets, and word processing.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
