Duties

The Office of Human Capital (OHC) supports the successful achievement of ICE's important mission by recruiting and hiring high-performing talent. OHC delivers a diverse portfolio of human capital programs and services for the ICE workforce, to include those that focus on the health and well-being of ICE's most important priority, its employees.

Major Duties at the Full Performance Level:

  • Building sustainable relationships with customers through open and interactive communication.
  • Assisting with the development of desk guides, standard operating procedures, and standard reference materials used within the Classification Unit.
  • Researching and analyzing data to determine extent of customer problems and identify potential resolutions or workarounds.
  • Responding to correspondence from internal and external stakeholders concisely, citing policy, and regulation when available as well as providing links to the information
  • Responding to inquiries concerning Classification processing procedures and requirements, and provides additional information depending on the nature of the issue, organization services, and status of the requester.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
For GS-05: Must possess one of the following:

Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-04 grade level or equivalent performing at least 2 out of 4 of the following duties:

  • Assisting senior assistants and specialists maintaining administrative, HR subject matter records and files.
  • Possessing a basic understanding of responding to customer issues using multiple communication channels, such as phone, email, or web-based collaboration tools.
  • Reviewing customer requests and inquiries and issue appropriate guidance in HR functional area of responsibility with supervision from senior assistants and specialists.
  • Possessing a basic understanding of extracting/revising/sorting information in HR documents, files, records, and databases.

OR

Education: Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-05 position. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. Please note: only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

For GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent performing 2 out of 4 of the following duties:
  • Entering, revising, sorting, calculating, or retrieving data, from various automated HR databases, for use in standard position management and classification reports.
  • Processing a full range of recurring actions or forwards requests to HR specialists or other employees when further process or review is required.
  • Locating and verifying information from records, files, and official personnel folders.
  • Handling customer issues, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives; follow up to ensure resolution.

For GS-07: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level or equivalent performing 2 out of 4 of the following duties:
  • Reviewing documents and records to completeness and accuracy and follows through to obtain missing or corrective information.
  • Using computer and office software programs to enter data, complete forms, correct errors or omissions, and extract/revise/sort information in HR documents, files, records, databases.
  • Deliver effective and clear coordination and communication across multiple levels of management involved in HR actions.
  • Assisting specialists in making Classification determinations by identifying Classification criteria in standards and assisting with the preparation of desk audits and position reviews.
To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
