Duties
As a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MILITARY) (Title 5), GS-0203-7, you will serve as the final reviewer and procedural authority of personnel actions submitted to the MILPO by lower echelons.
- Provide advice, guidance, and training to other personnel on actions in areas of expertise.
- Perform work in one or more of the following areas: Personnel Systems Management, Officer or Enlisted Personnel Management, Retirement Points Accounting Management, Selected Reserve Incentive Program, Physical Disability Evaluation System, Funeral Honors/Casualty Assistance.
- Provide advice, guidance, and training to other personnel on actions in areas of expertise.
- Provide instructions, training and interpretations, as needed, to lower echelons.
- Provide advisory services to family members of deceased military members (current and former).
- Serve as a liaison between the family and funeral directors and their assistants and Veteran service organizations.
- Draft and prepare related correspondence for appropriate signatures and enters data into automated systems.
- Retrieve data from information sources, both manual and electronic for use in answering questions, responding to correspondence, or preparing reports or briefings.
- Ensure completeness and proper forwarding of records to appropriate areas.
- Research and obtain all necessary and relevant information regarding cases and issues.
- Serve as the final reviewer and procedural authority of personnel actions by lower echelons.
- Process personnel actions to include accessions, discharges/separations, promotions, awards, reductions, and transfers.
- Perform personnel and administrative actions related to deployment manning documents.
- Review and process requests for retention beyond mandatory removal date and evaluation reports.
- Ensure that regulatory requirements related to a specific action are met.
- Maintain files and libraries of current material including policies, procedures, and guidance.
- Collect data from various sources for statistical purposes regarding assigned program, which may also be used to project budgetary requirements.
- Identify gaps or inconsistencies in records and initiate actions or interviews personnel to obtain needed data.
- Provide explanations and interpretations of rules, regulations, procedures, and requirements pertaining to actions taken or recommended.

- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
- Position designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. Designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by TAG.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07 Level - You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-06, in the normal line of progression for the occupation, HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MILITARY), in an organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: serving as final reviewer and procedural authority of personnel actions; processing personnel actions that are not limited to: accessions, discharges/separations, promotions, awards, reductions, and transfers, retirement eligibility; analyzing case information; identifying gaps or inconsistencies in records and initiating actions; preparing correspondence for signature; entering data into automated systems; providing advice, guidance, and training to other personnel as needed; and serving as primary point of contact, coordinator, and advisor for questions associated with Military Funeral Honors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-06 grade/level position or equivalent in the federal service.
