The United States Space Force (USSF) Directorate of Civilian Policy and Programs (S1C) at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado is searching for a Classification Specialist (NH-0201-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).

Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will help structure organizations to best support the mission in a stable, highly collaborative environment where your expertise is genuinely valued. As a Human Resources Specialist (Classification), you will apply extensive classification expertise and deep knowledge of federal classification standards, laws, and OPM guidelines across GS, FWS, DCIPS, Lab Demo, and AcqDemo frameworks to deliver accurate, defensible, and consistent classification decisions. In this role, you will provide technical advice to management, troubleshooting and resolving complex problems associated with organizational design and position management, while strategically recommending alternatives for reorganizations, realignments, and career-ladder development.
The ideal candidate for this Human Resources Specialist (Classification) role is a seasoned expert in federal position classification and strategic position management who possesses hands-on experience navigating GS, FWS, DCIPS, Lab Demo, and AcqDemo pay systems to resolve complex, high-grade classification issues. This analytical advisor confidently audits positions, interprets OPM standards even when direct precedents do not exist, and partners directly with senior leadership to optimize organizational design and drive mission success.
Key Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the full range of federal HR personnel programs, position classification and position management and a wide range of other federal personnel management laws, regulations, executive orders, functions, theories, concepts, policies, precedents, practices, and techniques and the interrelationship of various personnel disciplines.
- Knowledge of the agency's, management's, and installation's objectives, missions, and operating programs and implications on command and/or agency personnel management programs and organizations.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of fact finding, analysis, qualitative and quantitative evaluation and diagnosis, and the resolution on complex problems to analyze substantive organizational and operational practices and problems and develop concrete action plans to provide appropriate HR recommendations and solutions to management.
- Skill in written and oral communication techniques sufficient to develop and deliver briefings, status reports, and correspondence to managers to foster understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations.
- Ability to use automated systems to affect personnel actions, change data fields, retrieve data, create reports and queries, utilize email, and operate basic word processing functions.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with management officials, co-workers, and others to ensure cooperative resolution of problems and provide effective coordination of activities.

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
- This PRD has been classified based on projected duties or new mission requirements. The duties within this PRD may be reviewed for accuracy after 12 months of Full Operational Capability of organization identified within this PRD.
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
- Incentive is not authorized.

- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
