INTRODUCTION:
The Innovation Specialist is located in Personal & Professional Development Branch's Library Program. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the Innovation Labs at the Camp Foster Library and to assist the Library Program Supervisory Librarian (NF-1410-04) in the daily administration of the Innovation Labs. The primary mission of the Innovation Labs is to provide resources that will stimulate and enhance the quality of life for Marines, Sailors, civilians, and family members in the educational, creative, and innovative realms through the use of cutting-edge tools and experiences. The incumbent will serve as a resource person and trainer for the library system. The incumbent may be assigned to alternate Camp Libraries as mission requirements may dictate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Administrative Duties:
Oversees the Innovation Labs to include administrative responsibilities in the following: administering educational classes to the community on the use of the Innovation Lab equipment, providing input and conducting library programming pertaining to the Innovation Lab, creating work orders and marketing requests, providing training to all library staff on the use of the equipment, and recommending new purchases to the Supervisory Librarian.
Serves as the point of contact for matters regarding the Innovation Labs and may work with the camp coordinator, representatives from local commands/units, internal customers, and other camp entities.
2. Innovation Lab Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for the operation of the Innovation Labs, upkeep of equipment, facilitating training for patrons and library staff, conducting library programming efforts related to the Innovation Labs, making recommendations for the procurement of new equipment, and collecting and reporting metrics on the usage of the Innovation Labs.
The incumbent ensures that all tenets of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and safety regulations are followed.
3. Library Operations:
As required by operational and business requirements, the incumbent may be assigned by the Supervisory Librarian to library operations such as circulation desk duties, customer reference service, and explain library policies and procedures to patrons and staff.
Assists with the library's collection, control and processes to maintain the collection, locate materials, and to maintain control over the library's holdings. May also assist with shelf reading to ensure the collection is properly organized; library files and bookkeeping records; compiles, maintains and submits library specific statistics for monthly and yearly reports; prepares and distributes publicity materials. Resolves problems in registration, overdue books, circulation, loans, damaged, or lost materials, as surfaced by lower-level technicians.
Provides professional program assistance to the Supervisory Librarian. Assists in planning and executing programs without repetitive instructions from the Supervisory Librarian. Fosters cooperative working relationships with patrons and employees.
Submits recommendations and requests for new library materials to the Supervisory Librarian. Maintains an awareness of needed changes in procedures, policies, and processes and makes minor changes at the library branch level. Maintains security of library materials and is responsible for facility security in accordance with existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of MCCS internal control and the library.
4. Customer Service:
Provides assistance to library customers. Patrons include military personnel and family members; school aged children, civilian employees, retirees, university students, local national customers, and others. Patron requirements are analyzed and appropriate information resources are located and selected.
Assists library customers in using the on-line public access catalog (OPAC), online resources, the internet, and other databases and government resources. Coordinates actions to address concerns with computer equipment, software and communication links. Customers are assisted/instructed in the use of library equipment.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
