- Employees and family members requiring medical/dental care in the overseas location are responsible for obtaining/paying for care. Access for these members to military medical/dental treatment facilities is on space-available/reimbursable basis only.
- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.

- Incumbent may be required to work other than the normal duty hours in the performance of the job; overtime may be required. Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on military and commercial aircraft.
- A bachelor's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, or Computer is highly desirable.
- Security or equivalent technical training and work experience is highly desirable.
- Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
- Other physical activities may include standing to deliver briefings, bending to file and climbing stairs. The entire facility is handicap accessible.
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
- A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
Qualifications
This is a GG-12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, for the GS-2210, Information Technology (IT) Management Series (Alternative A).
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.
For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Quality experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of creditable experience include knowledge of IA best practices for ensuring the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of information systems. Knowledge of networking devices (i.e., routers, firewalls), as well as the technologies and tools related to electronic attack and defend of such devices. Knowledge of DoD Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) principles, products, services, tools and techniques. Understanding of IT server and client technologies (hardware and software) for both the Windows, Unix and/or Linux operating systems. Understanding of the threats to IT systems, as well as the technologies and tools related to attacking and defending IT systems.
Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. A wide range of knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of IT system server and client technologies (hardware and software) for both the Windows and Unix operating systems, as well as the technologies and tools related to electronic attack and defense of such devices.
2. Knowledge of IA principles for ensuring the availability, integrity and confidentiality of information systems and skill in applying this knowledge to difficult and complex work assignments.
3. Practical knowledge of networking devices (i.e., routers, firewalls), as well as the technologies and tools related to electronic attack and defense of such devices and Practical knowledge of DoD Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) services.
4. Ability to apply practical knowledge of IT and security principles of IA sufficient enough to develop or enhance policies and procedures for the branch. 5. Ability to apply findings of network vulnerability assessments to mitigate security risks and apply countermeasures, learn new IT technologies, stay aware of emerging threats, and risks & risk management strategies.
6. Ability to apply sound judgment when assessing IT security configurations and in weighing options the impact or influence the desired course of action and communicate effectively, both orally & in writing, and to present briefings to peers, managers and senior leaders.
Conditions of Employment Continued:
- Work is normally performed in a regular office setting. Work is mostly sedentary and may require long periods of time working at a desk or computer terminal. At times, walking to or visiting other offices may be required in order to gain specific information, seek coordination, inspect systems and provide guidance. Other physical activities may include standing to deliver briefings, bending to file and climbing stairs. The entire facility is handicap accessible. Incumbent may be required to travel outside NASIC to attend training, meetings, workshops or seminars in order to teach, receive or exchange information in their area of expertise. In doing so, incumbent may be required to travel locally, within or outside the country. In emergencies, a recall to duty may be required.
- This position is covered by the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS), and as such will subject the incumbent to those examinations and/or tests that are necessary to obtain and retain a security clearance and any special access required by the position in accordance with the AFI 36-1101. This position is a testing designated position and as such requires periodic urinalysis testing. Failure to comply with any of the special requirements when required, will subject the incumbent of this position to reassignment or disciplinary adverse actions, including demotion or removal.
- Position is designated special-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Tier 5 or Tier 5R investigation (formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation). A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. A Statement of Understanding (SOU) identifying acknowledgment of the Security Accreditation and Certification must be signed.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
Education
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel Systems (DCIPS) position implemented under Section 504, Title V of Public Law 99-569, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1987, as codified in Sec 1601, Chap 83 of Title 10 United States Code which sets forth Air Force policies and procedures for DCIPS. This position is in the Excepted Service.
