Duties

As a IT Specialist, you will:

  • Implementing and supporting cloud migration activities including designing, building, and deploying large-scale cloud applications for data processing and advanced analytics
  • Developing code for survey data processing including establishing microservices to bring more automation to survey processes for increased operational efficiency
  • Providing database management and design along with data integrity, data security and privacy compliance enforcement
  • Initiating and manage change requests for database and system changes
  • Providing technical advice and recommendations on the projects or delivery/task orders in relation to the design, development and deployment of IT systems
  • Designing, building, and deploying large-scale cloud applications using Java, SQL, XML, cloud technologies including and microservices to enhance cloud capabilities.

Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ:

  • US Citizenship required.

  • May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared.

  • Direct deposit is required.
  • One-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521). CDC inspires public confidence in its trust responsibilities and mission by maintaining high ethical principles. If selected, you may be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to determine if a conflict or an appearance of a conflict exists between your financial interest and your prospective position with the agency. If identified, this will be an annual requirement.
  • In accordance with Executive Order 12564 of September 15, 1986, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is A Drug-Free Federal Workplace. This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing. The position may require the submission of a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and be subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing upon hiring. If required to submit to urinalysis, the appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative test result.

Minimum Qualifications: For GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: Cloud platforms, microservices, maintenance of relational databases and applications.

For GS-13: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: with Java, SQL, XML, microservices, concepts and methods related to the design and development of databases and applications programs, to perform sophisticated database and applications programming to meet user
requirements; analyzing data from various sources and developing reports.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
