Summary

About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Ft. Moore, Georgia 31905. The Maneuver Center of Excellence is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, AL. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Public transportation and free parking is available.

Duties

  • Repairs include replacing gores, sections, and suspension lines; repairing lateral bands; patching and darning pilot chutes; replacing harnesses, pack trays, static lines, ripcord pockets.
  • Repairs deployment bags and replacing eyes, cores, grommets, and other hardware.
  • Exercises a thorough knowledge of the type of machine and size thread to be used in making repair, alteration or modification, assuring that all work conforms to rigid specifications.
  • Repairs or replace defective worn parts.
  • Knowledgeable of shop safety practices and understand purpose and limitation of equipment, tools, etc., used or operated thereby ensuring the safety of self and other workers.
  • Must possess skill in the use of hand tools, canvas, nylon, rayon, and hardware in making repairs.
  • Installs zippers in various type covers, bags, etc.
  • Perform Parachute Repairer Foreman who furnishes work assignments orally of through work orders. Specific instructions may be provided relative to unusual assignments.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Repairer (Sewing Machine) without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in performing repairs include replacing gores, sections, and suspension lines; repairing lateral bands; patching and darning pilot chutes; replacing harnesses, pack trays, static lines, ripcord pockets, and deployment bags; and replacing eyes, cores, grommets, and other hardware. Perform Parachute Repairer Foreman who furnishes work assignments orally of through work orders. Specific instructions may be provided relative to unusual assignment by using technical manuals, manufacturer's manuals, schematics, blueprints and drawings. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. Use technical manuals, manufacturer's manuals, schematics, blueprints and drawings. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical efforts - Position requires standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and pulling equipment. Incumbent is also required to exert considerable effort in pulling and handling bulky/cumbersome fabric materials. Work involves close eye-hand coordination when working on heavy cargo chutes. Danger exists of being injured in process of using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, pliers, etc.)
  • Working conditions - Incumbent works in motor pools, ammunition supply points/igloos, ranges and training areas, and enclosed cab of vehicle. There is exposure to all types of weather conditions and all types of traffic where there is a possibility of serious accident. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading and unloading vehicles. Work assignments involve a of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes.
