About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

  • Educate undergraduate students on American, European, Russian History survey, and History of the United States Army.
  • Assist the Resnick Center Director with administrative requirements, projects, and activities.
  • Support Resnick Center's collaboration with the Department of Defense on relevant research initiatives.
  • Support undergraduate research and thesis completion.
  • Engage in original research with respect to historical study of antisemitism/influence campaigns in 20th century societies.
  • Support the Academy's mission to educate, train, build, and inspire leaders of character for service as officers in the US Army and to the nation.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed two years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.


SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Applicants will be evaluated on the following:
1) Academic accomplishment (Ph.D. is preferred) in 20th century American, European, or Russian History with a focus on antisemitism or a closely related field.
2) Ability to teach American, European, or Russian History survey, and an interest in or ability to teach the History of the United States Army.
3) Demonstrated experience with commitment to student centered and active learning instruction.
4) Scholarly success, to include demonstrated research, writing, and communication ability.
5) Ability to contribute to Resnick Center initiatives and assist with administration of the center.
