Specialized Experience
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must possess the specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in Federal service or comparable experience not gained through Federal service (equivalent private/public sector experience). You must have the specialized experience that has provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is defined as supporting ongoing or emerging substantive intelligence collection and dissemination activities in any established specialty area.
Such experience may include conducting a variety of complex assignments within his/her area of responsibility and conducting and directing in-depth research and analysis in support of homeland security. Additionally, such experience could be gained from working with public and private sector partners to create and information-sharing environment for the purposes of bi-directional information sharing; collecting and analyzing information of intelligence value to identify trends, patterns, and indicators of threats to homeland security.
To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in Federal service or comparable experience not gained through Federal service (equivalent private/public sector experience), performing duties such as:
- Conducting ongoing or emerging substantive intelligence collection and dissemination activities in any established specialty area;
- Conducting and directing in-depth complex research and analysis;
- Supporting intelligence assessments to determine potential threats.
NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Note: Current or former Federal employees
MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive and excepted service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary. examples of appropriate SF-50s include promotions, With-in Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s dated a year apart within the same grade/job).
