Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The purpose of this position is to load and unload supplies and materials, stacking for storage; setup and take down job sites; to ensure accurate inventories, and input data into a computer system; perform manual labor tasks using common hand tools and simple power equipment.

Duties

  • Perform routine maintenance work, including but not limited to sweeping, cleaning, scrubbing, sand blasting, painting, chipping, grinding, shoveling, hanging signs, assisting with material installations on fabrication projects, etc.
  • Load and unload supplies and materials to and from storage racks.
  • Count, sort, and move parts or supplies to ensure accurate inventories, and input data into a computer database system.
  • Operate forklift trucks with a capacity under 10,000 pounds to load and unload, stack and unstack, and transport materials and supplies to and from designated areas.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

  • Must obtain prior to employment and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must obtain and/or maintain forklift operator’s license within 12 months of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain overhead crane certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Position requires the ability to walk on and traverse uneven ground.
  • Various protective devices such as safety shoes and glasses, gloves, respirators, and hard hats must be used.
  • Position requires participation in and compliance with the Respiratory Protection Program.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Laborer without more than normal supervision, I have the skill to perform common routine manual duties in and around a maintenance and repair facility, clean physical facilities and assist with basic maintenance and repair duties. I can sweep, clean, and move supplies and materials; safely operate common hand tools and equipment (manual lawn mowers, clippers, screwdrivers, office vacuums, etc.). I can assist with routine equipment maintenance and input data into a computer database system.
  • Physical Effort: Frequently lifts, carries, and moves objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, use of hand tools, use of power tools, working on ladders and walking. Motor vehicle operation requires light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the forklift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being moved. Incumbent must possess the ability to work physically demanding jobs for long hours in uncomfortable environments such as tight spaces, wet spaces, and dirty jobs.
  • Working Conditions: Work is usually performed outdoors. Subject to severe injury when using tools, equipment, and movement of heavy objects. Drivers operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent) and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. At times one will be required to work in confined spaces and at heights. Subject to severe injury when using tools, equipment, and when working around heavy objects. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, forklift truck's overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment. All these operations are often carried out in extreme hot and cold weather.
