Duties

  • The duties, described below, represent the major duties performed at the GS-07 level. The duties performed for developmental positions will be of limited scope and complexity to develop skills, proficiency, and work experience.
  • Incumbent plans and carries out work and handles problems and deviations in work assignments in accordance with instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work and makes day to day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
  • Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work-flow or job specialization, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assures that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
  • Makes information suggestions to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
  • Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc., and obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor regarding problems that arise.

Qualifications

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-06, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher in the Federal service. To be considered for the GS-07, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher in the Federal service.

Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-05 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-06 Specialized experience is defined as: applying regulations, policies and procedures governing pay and other types of financial transactions sufficient to convey information to customers and other interested parties; researching customer accounts and financial regulations, policies and procedures to identify discrepancies and suggest solutions; explaining pay and other types of financial procedures; referencing and explaining technical materials; conveying options and resolving problems within automated financial systems.

Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-06 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-07 Specialized experience is defined as: applying financial regulations, policies and procedures to research customer issues; develop solutions and explain regulations and outcomes to customers; resolving customer inquiries in a call center environment; interpreting technical materials; resolve problems within automated financial systems; and recommending improvements to workflow efficiency.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Education

GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. GS-07 (1-grade interval) Substitution of Education for Experience: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
