Duties

  • You will be required to perform duties as a Crew Chief by directing and leading by assigning employees to motorized firefighting equipment (e.g. firefighting crew, emergency medical, hazardous material operations).
  • You will be required to direct the operation of firefighting vehicles, equipment, and personnel at emergency scenes.
  • You will be required to perform structural firefighting duties at large industrial facilitates where structures, equipment, and operations present complex and hazardous firefighting situations.
  • You will be required to perform duties as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), responding to medical emergencies, analyzing situations, and initiating a variety of emergency medical procedures and protocols.
  • You will be required to prepare reports and documentation concerning emergency incidents, training, maintenance, and inventory.
  • You will provide guidance using technical reference manuals, procedures, and specific Fire fighting policies.
  • You will be required to perform different phases of fire fighting tactics, strategies related fire service subjects, hazardous material incident management, tactics and procedures, and basic instructional techniques.
  • You will be required to change his/her own course of action as conditions change. Capable of deferring at appropriate times to decisions of personnel with more advanced credentials and/nor greater authority.
  • You will be required to provide oral and written communication (e.g. supervisors, personnel throughout the installation, community fire personnel, emergency health care workers personnel, and emergency medical care).

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to work hours and conditions that are in close contact with Supervisors and coworkers for long periods of time (24 to 72 hrs.)
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays) and rotating shift work.
  • This position is designated emergency essential personnel, and the position is subject to recall in the event of a natural disaster or base emergency.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Leading and directing day to day emergency and non-emergency responsibilities, tasks, and duties of the workforce; AND proficient in fighting fires of structural, wildland, perform emergency medical, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, emergency services communications, and fire prevention activities.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies.

You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements.

You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties.

You will be required to possess and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Hazardous Material Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Hazardous Materials Technician.

You will be required to possess and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Fire Officer 1, Fire Inspector 1, and Fire Instructor 1, by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.

You will be required to possess and maintain a current Department of Defense Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (DOD/EVOC),

You will be required to possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

You must possess and maintain a current National Registry or State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

You will be required to work hours and conditions under close contact with supervisors for long periods of time.

You may be required to work in high elevations and/or below ground in confined workspaces.

You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions.

You will be exposed to communicable diseases, unsanitary conditions, and traumatic injuries.

You will be required to possess and maintain the physical stamina, agility, and mental stability to work under conditions where intense periods of physical exertion and mental stress, under adverse conditions, may be encountered.

You must be able to work under emergency conditions giving clear, definitive instructions, in a decisive manner to firefighting forces and other emergency service personnel.

This position is subject to exposure from hazardous materials that include chemicals, fuels, biological agents, radioactive particles, and explosives.

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
