PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work performed requires incumbent to stand and/or walk continuously on hard-surfaced floors. Incumbent must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull, reach, and exercise normal body movements to perform laundry duties. Incumbent must have the physical strength to operate and control the various types of industrial equipment used in the laundry department. Employee must have adequate grip strength to pull wet linen from machines. Incumbent needs strength and stamina for performing heavy tasks for long periods of time and is continuously bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching while performing daily tasks. Employee must be physically able to lift items weighing 50 pounds or more, pushing/pulling linen carts weighing up to 500 pounds, and continuously dump bags of soiled linen as required.
WORK CONDITIONS: The incumbent will perform all linen duties indoors, in a well-lit, well ventilated, and climate-controlled environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises from carts and linen processing and finishing equipment. Incumbent will also be subject to noise from laundry equipment. Employee is exposed to dirt, bacteria, disagreeable odors, and may be subjected to contagious diseases associated with hospital settings. Employee will be required to wear the proper personal protective equipment when exposed to soiled linen and hazardous drugs in the performance of laundry duties.
