Duties
In this Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist role, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security individuals involved in collecting intelligence reports utilizing a wide range of law enforcement information systems, assisting with interpretation and implementation of immigration law, video surveillance, and database analysis.
This position starts at a salary of $49,960.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $79,443.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $79,443.00 (GS-9 Step 10).
The Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist provides programmatic integration knowledge of immigration law, geospatial technology, video surveillance, and database analysis. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research, and analysis.
- Analyzing tactical surveillance video and imagery in conjunction with sensor alerts and other resources to detect and identify threats and incursions entering the U.S. and relay that information to agents in real time.
- Conducting data mining and analyzing information by utilizing national databases to determine identity, alienage and removability of individuals in accordance with Immigration laws, rules, and regulations.
- Researching, analyzing, developing, and reporting on a variety of investigative and intelligence information to support ongoing investigations.
- Interpreting and implementing immigration law, video surveillance and database analysis.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
- Receiving, compiling and updating intelligence reports during real-time law enforcement operations.
- Gathering and analyzing data collected through numerous automated systems ensuring proper status determinations are quick and accurate.
- Directing and advising law enforcement officers using information derived automated systems.
- Analyzing actionable information during specific events that involve officer safety.
- Identifying and reporting criminal history information, active warrants, and driver's license information.
You qualify for the
GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
- Creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research and analysis.
- Utilizing law enforcement databases, video/remote sensor data and geospatial information to collect and analyze tactical intelligence.
- Utilizing national databases to determine identity, non-citizenship, and removability of individuals in accordance with Immigration laws, rules and regulations.
- Conducting real-time, rapid research through a wide assortment of databases and information systems.
- Identifying and reporting criminal history information, federal/state/local warrants, and driver's license information.

Education Substitution:
GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours.

A bachelor's degree with
Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required. It is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA 3.0 or higher of a possible 4.0, excluding pass/fail credits. Pass/fail credits cannot be more than 10% of total credits), or (3) honor society membership. Review

GS-09: Successful completion of two or more years of full-time graduate education or a Master's (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university or an LL.B. or J.D may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours.
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grade GS-9.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
- Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
- Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/14/2025.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP.
