SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In order to be considered for this position you must:
A. Possess experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention and/or investigation of felony and/or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws;

B. Have held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series.

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties, performing duties such as:
- Performing maritime training instructional duties evaluating other officer/agents as a collateral responsibility.

OR-
- Instructing basic and advanced law enforcement training curriculum in the maritime topical areas to include: vessel intercepts; vessel pursuits; pre-boarding procedures; boarding procedures; vessel search techniques; commercial vessel familiarization; and commercial vessel tactical entry techniques; and Seaport security assessments.
-AND-
You must have been certified as a vessel operator with a law enforcement agency or possess a U.S. Coast Guard/Merchant Mariner license. You must include the certification date in your resume and provide a copy of your certification. Failure to upload your certification may result in your loss of consideration.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Physical Demands: This work requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, lying down or crouching in positions that may be tiring, uncomfortable and require considerable physical exertion. In the Maritime Tactical Operations Training Program (MTOTP) Instructors are required to demonstrate ladders climbs on the MTOTP climbing facility while climbing caving ladders, in standard boarding uniform and full tactical kit (Appx. 35 lbs.) to a height of 24 ft. Additionally, able to repel down to and injured or fatigued student clip in and lower both safely to the ground. While in the pool demonstrate climbing the caving ladder in full kit (Appx. 35 Lbs.) to a height of 24 ft. then drop from that height into the water. During the Commercial Vessel Training Program (CVBTP) while in the pool in standard boarding uniform able to demonstrate climbing the embarkation ladder from the front and side to a height of 24 ft. then drop from that height into the water. Instructors also required to demonstrate climbing pilot ladders at the Cape Chalmers training vessel to a height of 27 ft. cross over the rail and climb back down while wearing standard boarding uniform, life jacket and helmet. Instructors must be able to obtain a lifeguard certification and also must be able to complete swimming requirements to maintain lifeguard certifications. There is the need to carry weapons, gear, and packages or containers such as ammunition. This work also includes serving as captain or crew on government vessels in all types of weather and sea conditions. Travel may be involved. Instructors are expected to maintain a level of fitness which will enable them to perform all tasked listed above.

Transfer Requirement for CSRS: To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must: - Transfer without a break in service exceeding 3 days directly from a primary position to a secondary position;
AND - Be continuously employed in a secondary position since moving from a primary position;
except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause) and/or voluntary breaks in service that began
prior to January 20, 1988.
Transfer Requirement for FERS: To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must: - Transfer without a break in service exceeding 3 days directly from a primary position to a secondary position;
AND - Have completed 3 years of service in a primary position, including any such service during which no FERS deductions were withheld;
AND - Be continuously employed in a secondary position since moving from a rigorous position;
except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause).
Re-employed annuitants' annual salaries will be reduced by the amount of their retirement annuity and by further cost of living increases. FERS retirees receiving a FERS annuity supplement must also be aware that, like social security benefits, their FERS annuity supplement is subject to an earnings test and may be reduced if the salary earned is more than the social security exempt amount of earnings.
