To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade.
To qualify for the Grade 12, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS 11 it must include:
- Experience leading or coordinating the work of other technicians (e.g., assigning tasks, reviewing completed work, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety requirements) OR independently planning and carrying out complex projects involving the installation, operation, maintenance, or repair of mechanical/industrial equipment (such as pumps, valves, piping systems, turbines, diesel engines, heat exchangers, or control systems).
- Experience developing or overseeing maintenance and operations plans for laboratories, facilities, or comparable industrial environments OR coordinating with contractors/vendors and managing resources (e.g., scheduling, procurement of routine supplies, or related support functions) to ensure completion of technical projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
- Education and Training - Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.
- Industrial Equipment Operation - Knowledge of principles and methods for operating industrial equipment.
- Mechanics - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, benefits, repair, operation, and maintenance.
- Metal Processing and Metalworking - Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to process, treat, form, or shape metal.
- Teaching others - Help others learn through formal or informal methods; identify training needs; provide constructive feedback; coach others on how to perform tasks; act as a Mentor.
For all types of consideration, experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
