Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:You must possess one year of specialized experience which includes: controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; performing rescue operations; detecting, reducing, or eliminating the of potential fire hazards; controlling hazardous materials incidents; and providing training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Selective placement factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain the following DoD IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications: Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, HAZMAT Technician, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification (issued by state or National Registry).
MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Employees hired for the first time ("originally hired") into GS-0081 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at the time of appointment. The MEA for Firefighters (FFs) is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered FF position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment.
