Duties
- Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
- Ensures the safe operation of the pool, filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test.
- Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21, and assists with Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET or `Dunker') if the equipment/program is available.
- Leads the work of other employees, passing on to other workers instructions received from the supervisor, and provides on-the job training to new employees.

- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

- This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
- An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required. Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, freedom from communicable disease in accordance with current Army policy.
- Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
- In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
- Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
- May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
- Work schedule will be irregular. The incumbent will be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays and/or special events.
- Lead lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
- Conducts safety/health rule briefings to groups prior to use of the pool.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
- a Lifeguarding and First Aid certificate (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent e.g. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS), AND
- an American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional or CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent certifications (American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid), AND
- one or more of the following Instructor ratings:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGTI) authorization, or
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) authorization, or
- Aquatic Exercise Association Instructor authorization (AEA), or
- Adapted Aquatic Instructor authorization.
All certifications MUST be uploaded at the time of application.
