Summary

About the position: This position is located in the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort, an AFRC Facility in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavarian Alps, Germany.

The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of tasks as a Lead Recreation cASHIER in the Recreation Department.

Duties

  • Serves as Lead Recreation Assistant (Ski Instructor), teaching diverse groups and individuals in ski programs while prioritizing student safety and using various methods to accommodate different skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Leads hiring and training of ski school staff. Oversees daily operations, including organizing ski-offs, class assignments, racecourse setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Manages information desk operations, arranges ski groups, assigns instructors, and handles cash and tickets with strict internal controls.
  • Trains ski instructors in the PSIA American Teaching System and conducts PSIA certification clinics.
  • Supports program registration, tournaments, equipment issues, ski lifts, snowmaking, cleaning, and accompanies guests to related activities and competitions.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by ELR and the local area, as the job requires providing a lot of information to guests.
  • Always maintain a positive attitude around and towards guests to project a positive image for ELR and our programs.
  • To maintain high-quality service to our guests, report any problems to the ski school director as soon as possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3 to include a National Agency Check (NAC). Must be bondable.

Qualifications

  • Work experience performing similar duties.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in training and leading employees.
  • Must be an advanced skier with instructor certification.
  • Must have or be able to obtain current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification.

Education

Education: High School graduate. Higher education in related fields is desirable but not required.
Must possess the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Additional information

This is a limited tenure position not to exceed 18 months. It is an unaccompanied program because we cannot provide logistical support to family members. Dorm-style housing is provided in lieu of a living quarters allowance. Transportation to and from Germany is provided in accordance with the terms of the Joint Travel Regulation and the executed transportation agreement. Military spouses and family members currently residing within the Garmisch Military Community who apply under this announcement will be considered for a regular appointment.
