Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
- Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC Terminals and applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must meet and maintain the requirements of the IAW AR 190-56, Individual Reliability Program.
- Must submit to pre-employment and random drug screenings thereafter.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually. All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
- Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- Must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program
- Must successfully complete security guard training.
- Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR
- Must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.

- May be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton
- Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
- Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential
- Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability. The duties and training require to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) experience managing a security guard force; (2) experience controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; (3) experience using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation; (4) experience transcribing data using special codes in accordance with federal, and state regulations and (5) experience dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible for access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
