Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation in addition to the being able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- IAW AR 190-56, Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; and when being considered for employment and periodically thereafter, they must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually in the use of assigned firearms/weapons. All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) IAW AR190-56. Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
- Incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installations overall security response capability. This requires the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life and engaging in work with protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
