Summary

This position is located in various Bureaus/Offices across the FCC, located in Washington, DC.  For candidates who meet the qualification requirements, candidates will be referred throughout the year, specifically on or about the first two weeks following the dates listed below.

This is a student position that is open to current law degree seeking students enrolled in an accredited institution as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Duties

The incumbent serves in a developmental student intern capacity performing work assignments to support attorneys/ and/or staff members that vary based on the Bureau/Office where the student is assigned. The assignments and projects cover a broad range of the Commission's mission functions involving rulemaking, spectrum management, application and licensing processing; investigations and complaints analyses, electronic media, public safety and homeland security and consumer information and education.

Typically, legal student intern assignments range from supporting litigation and rulemaking, conducting special studies, projects and initiatives to assisting with drafting new regulations to helping with public outreach; and, may involve performing a variety of legal functions regarding internal and other administrative matters.

Qualifications

  • A degree seeking student in the field of Law and have completed one to two years of study toward law degree.
  • Enrolled in a school that has been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Enrolled at least half-time as defined by your school.
  • Be in good academic standing (i.e., must have at least a 3.0 GPA or its equivalent).
  • Students must provide a Cover Letter describing their interest in the position.
  • US Citizen or if you are not a citizen you must meet one the following criteria:  1. owe permanent allegiance to the United States (for example, natives of American Samoa and Swains Island); 2. be a lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); or 3. be admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or have been granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and have filed a declaration of intention to become lawful permanent resident and then citizen when eligible.

GS-07:  Completed one full academic year of graduate level education toward a law degree. 

GS-09:  Completed two full academic years of graduate level education toward a law degree.
