Summary
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the third largest of its kind in the country, covers 46 counties and maintains offices in Atlanta, Newnan, Gainesville and Rome. Approximately 85 Clerk's Office staff support the work of nine judges.
Duties
The Linux Systems Administrator, responsible for all phases of support of Linux systems in the Bankruptcy Court, reports to the Chief Deputy for Information and Technology. The position is based in Atlanta with the possibility of remote work.
This position installs, configures, maintains, and supports the Linux server operating system and performs work related to database management. The incumbent also performs professional work related to designing, modifying, and adapting existing software for the Court's Case Management/ Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) database system, as well as other national and locally developed applications. This position performs other related tasks as required:
- Coordinate software system installation, make programming changes, and monitor equipment functionality.
- Communicate with operations management regarding applicable updates and changes in the use of the CM/ECF system.
- Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan computer specifications and layouts as well as equipment modifications and resolve systems-related problems.
- Assists in the development and implementation of short and long range Information Technology improvement plans for the court, ensuring that changes can be implemented with minimal disruption at the court site when changes are made.
- Serve as technical administrator for CM/ECF and other national and locally developed applications.
- Provide technical CM/ECF systems support and administration including installing, configuring, testing, and supporting new version releases.
- Serve as application administrator for CM/ECF by creating and modifying system events, system behavior, forms, settings, and users.
- Conduct backup and recovery of the CM/ECF databases and all Linux systems; implement disaster recovery plans ensuring data security and integrity.
- Maintain and develop Perl and shell scripts with embedded SQL to extract information from existing system databases or add information to the databases and perform administrative tasks.
- Perform ongoing analysis of new and existing system applications to identify and correct problems and make recommendations for improvement to both manual and automated processes.
- Perform project management and advise court managers on court automation needs, including time and cost requirements in terms of both personnel and funding.
- Prepare requests for hardware and software purchases in accordance with judiciary policies and procedures.
- Manage library of national and locally developed software and documentation affiliated with the Linux systems and relational databases.
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain the courts Linux servers by testing and applying new operating system software and maintenance patches as needed.
- Provide customer support via telephone, e-mail, and in-house help desk system.
- Create, review, maintain, and submit ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly, and yearly statistical reports.
- Maintain contact with other information technology court personnel at different locations for the purpose of staying knowledgeable of developments, techniques, and user programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience in Linux systems administration, Perl, Java, and Shell Script.
- Individual must be self-motivated, possess strong interpersonal and communications skills, work effectively in teams, and be willing to take on new duties as they are assigned with a positive and creative attitude.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer systems and networks, including skill in determining causes of operating errors.
- Advanced skills in generating or adapting programs, equipment, and technology to serve users' needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) to individuals and groups to provide information.
- Ability to produce accurate, thorough, and high-quality written work documents, translating technical terms into non-technical language.
- Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with others, providing customer service and resolving difficulties while complying with regulations, rules, and procedures.
Court Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Redhat Linux, with familiarity of database design, especially Informix and MySQL is highly desirable.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of the Informix Dynamic Server, MySQL, and relational database theory and application.
- Experience with the administration of the CM/ECF application.
- Experience with Drupal, SQL, Linux shell scripting, and Windows administration.
- Skills in project management.
Education
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in computer science, information systems is preferred.
