THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a MACHINIST, Position Description Number D1493000 and is part of the KS 190 Air Refueling Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, Topeka, KS.

Duties

As a MACHINIST, WG-3414-12, you will plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded machinist(s). Determine approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures. Estimate time, equipment, and material requirements. Devise and maintains plans and records. May provide recommendations and input to supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, and leave.

Supervisor provides general instructions, time frames, policies, and priorities; is available for technical guidance and assistance on unusual or controversial problems; and relies on the incumbent to control work operations and accomplish adequate quantity and quality of work. Incumbent determines approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Work is reviewed for efficient and economical accomplishment within priorities and control received. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

  • KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

Military Grades:E6 through E7

Compatible Military Assignments: Must have 2A7X1 AFSC

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have the knowledge to manufacture complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials. Work products are typically one-of-a-kind, involving unusual trade problems and requiring a high degree of ingenuity and responsibility.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have knowledge equivalent or greater to grade 11 machinists, in making more independent judgments and decisions and have greater leeway in methods and procedures for accomplishing their assignment. Being held responsible for a wider scope of machining operations, including extending the use of conventional machine tools and/or programming (CNC) machine tools, using a greater degree of independent judgment in determining the need for and improvising special setups and procedures on conventional and/or (CNC) machine tools to perform machining operations that have not been tried before, occur on a one-time or infrequent basis, require machining to tolerances that are difficult to attain or hold, or require machining of unusual surface configurations.

  • ANG: An airman must acknowledge in writing a demotion to a lower grade resulting from a voluntary change of assignment that the lower military grade (state specific grade) is accepted. The demotion would be "without prejudice" and will not preclude subsequent promotion under AFI 36-2502. The Date of Rank will be adjusted IAW AFI 36-2502.
